Grand Total Hours: 60
FY: Courses will be offered on a continuous basis so that the student can complete them in any spring or fall semester.
- Must successfully complete the course in order to progress in the AS Physical Science degree.
- Meet with an academic advisor or department chair to discuss requirements and which physics course is needed for your transfer university program. University Physics should substitute for College Physics at the transfer university and will keep more options open for the future.
- Choose a Communications Core elective from one of the following:
ENGL 1302 composition II 3 credit hours.
ENGL 2311 Technical and Business Writing 3 credit hours.
4. Choose a Mathematic Core/Restrictive Elective from one of the following:
MATH 2412 PreCalculus 4 credit hours - Core
MATH 2413 Calculus I 4 credit hours - Core/Restrictive
MATH 2414 Calculus II 4 credit hours - Restrictive
MATH 2415 Calculus III 4 credit hours - Restrictive
Second year physics course prerequisite will influence this decision.
5. Consider completing MATH 2414 Calculus II if you could not take it in the preceding spring semester or completing the
Calculus Sequence by taking MATH 2415 Calculus III. Courses may need to be moved to this semester to accomplish this.
6. Consider taking GOVT 2305 Federal Government or GOVT 2306 Texas Government to free up time in the second fall semester.
7 Meet with an academic advisor or department chair to discuss degree requirements and university specific transfer courses for
your transfer university. Choose from one of the following Physical Science Restrictive Electives:
ASTR 1303 / 1103 or PHYS 1303 / 1103 Stars and Galaxies 3-4 credit hours.
ASTR 1304 / 1104 or PHYS 1304 / 1104 Solar Systems 3-4 credit hours.
GEOL 1305 / 1105 or ENVR 1301 / 1101 Environmental Science 3-4 credit hours.
GEOL 1403 Physical Geology 4 credit hours.
GEOL 1404 Historical Geology 4 credit hours.
GEOL 1345 Meteorology 3 credit hours.
GEOL 1347 Oceanography 3 credit hours.
MATH 2415 Calculus III 4 credit hours.
Credit cannot be received in both cross-listed courses.
Be careful to assure the appropriate number of labs are undertaken to meet transfer university requirements.
Transfer Outlook
AS Physical Science (PHYSCI) can lead to university transfer for a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics, Meteorology, and Physics. AS PHYSCI is also ideal for students interested in medical equipment design, meteorology, and robotic technology. AS PHYSCI students interested in these bachelor’s degrees must work with an academic advisor or department chair to determine transferrable coursework.
Career Outlook
Physical Scientist - $43,345* w/Bachelor’s Degree
Mechanical Engineer - $65,385* w/Bachelor’s Degree
*Based on entry-level jobs in Central Texas
