This curriculum in Computer Information Systems is designed to develop the fundamental skills, knowledge, and experience which prepares the student for positions in the field of computer information systems and their use on the job. The program combines classroom lecture along with the hands-on experience to give the students practical knowledge of computer systems. Students may pursue a Certificate of Completion or the Associate Degree in several areas.

Note: For all degrees and certificates, students who lack keyboarding skills and/or did not pass the reading portion of the Texas Success Initiative should take POFT 1329 - Beginning Keyboarding , prior to enrolling in the program.

  • Elective -  Choose from Information Technology Electives 3 credit hours.
  • Elective - Choose from Management Electives 3 credit hours.
  • 3 credit hours.
  • Choose from the Social/Behavioral Science core 3 credit hours**1
  • Choose only one from the following cores:

    • Language, Philosophy and Culture core 3 credit hours.**1or
    • Creative Arts core 3 credit hours. **1

* BCIS or COSC is the preference over the ITSC/ITSE because it transfers more readily to four-year institutions.

***POFT 1329 is strongly suggested for those that do not know how to type or

    ARTC 1325 or CPMT 1304 is also suggested for the elective in the first semester.

1If you cannot take 15 hours in the semester, we recommend you take this course in the summer.
