ASTR 1104 - Solar System Laboratory

This course is designed to complement ASTR 1304. Study of the sun and its solar system, including its origin. This course consists of an observational approach to what can be found and measured in our solar system. Students will be involved in taking observations, performing simulations, data collection and analysis, and the preparation of written reports. Binoculars, different types of telescopes, and other instrumentation will be used. (Cross-listed as PHYS 1104.)

Measurable Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have: observed and documented basic movements of the nighttime sky, observed and compared various objects in the solar system, developed star-hopping skills to star-hop to find faint objects, identified various constellations visible during the semester, examined the moon in detail, documented observations of the sun.
