A Physical Sciences degree leads to a variety of opportunities in engineering and engineering support services. Also included is research and development in just about any field imaginable.

Chemists, physicists, astrophysicists/astronomers, work in multidisciplinary environments to address problems and create solutions for a wide range of issues in engineering, medical, environmental, and other fields.

Career paths in the physical sciences are indeed some of the most rewarding. Studies for this degree will provide ample opportunities for students to improve skills demanded by continued engagement in this field at a higher academic level. 

Additionally, students seeking a degree in Physical Sciences will find their career paths better defined and be able to determine, at an earlier stage, what direction they would like their future to take. 

Finally, the framework provided through a degree in Physical Sciences will lead to less issues in transferring to a 4-year school thereby improving graduation rates.

It will also improve the efficacy and efficiency of student efforts leading to reduced student loan debt and allowing the student to become a productive member of society more quickly.

First Year Fall

Meet with your academic advisor or department chair to obtain a copy of your desired transfer university degree plan and to determine the GPA needed to transfer to your desired university.

  • Social and Behavioral Science Core Elective 3 credit hours. 5,6 (FY)
  • Language, Philosophy and Culture Core Elective 3 credit hours. 5,6  (FY)

Please talk to a Temple College advisor regarding your Temple College graduation and your university-specific transfer courses.  Confirm courses for completion of AS Physical Sciences degree. 

Start applying for admission to transfer university and send first official transcript to transfer university.

  • Physical Science Restricted Elective 7 3 credit hours. 
  • PHYS 1401 College Physics I or
  • PHYS 2425 University Physics I 2  4 credit hours.

Please talk to a Temple College advisor regarding your Temple College graduation and your university-specific transfer courses. Apply for graduation for AS Physical Sciences. 

Confirm admission to transfer university, and send final official transcript to transfer university at end of semester.

  • Complete any necessary courses that you have elected to move to this semester.

1:  Choose a Mathematics Core Electives from one of the following:                                                                                                                
·      MATH 2412 Pre-Calculus 4 credit hours.                                                                                                                  
·      MATH 2413 Calculus I 4 credit hours.                                                                                                                  
Second year physics course prerequisite will influence this decision.                                                                                                                
2:  Meet with an academic advisor of department chair to discuss requirements and which physics course is needed for your transfer university program. University Physics should substitute for College Physics at the transfer university and will keep more options open for the future.                                                                      
3:  Choose a Communications Core elective from one of the following:                                                                                                                
·        ENGL 1302 Composition II 3 credit hours.                                                                                                                   
·        ENGL 2311 Technical and Business Writing 3 credit hours. .                                                                                                                  
4:  Choose a Mathematics Restrictive Elective from one of the following:                                                                                                                
·      MATH 2414 Calculus II 4 credit hours.                                                                                                                  
·      MATH 2415 Calculus III 4 credit hours.                                                                                                                  
Second year physics course prerequisite will influence this decision.                                                                                                                
5:  Consider completing MATH 2414 Calculus II if you could not take it in the preceding spring semester or completing the Calculus Sequence by taking MATH 2415 Calculus III. Courses may need to be moved to this semester to accomplish this.                                                                              
6:  Consider taking GOVT 2305 Federal Government or GOVT 2306 Texas Government to free up time in the second fall semester. Se                                                                                                              
7: Meet with an academic advisor or department chair to discuss degree requirements and university specific transfer courses for your transfer university. Choose from one of the following Physical Science Restricted Electives:                                                                                
·      ASTR 1303 / 1103 or PHYS 1303 / 1103 Stars and Galaxies 3-4 credit hours.                                                                                                              
·      ASTR 1304 / 1104 or PHYS 1304 / 1104 Solar Systems 3-4 credit hours.                                                                                                                
·      GEOL 1305 / 1105 or ENVR 1301 / 1101 Environmental Science 3-4 credit hours.                                                                                                              
·      GEOL 1403 Physical Geology 4 credit hours.                                                                                                                  
·      GEOL 1404 Historical Geology 4 credit hours.                                                                                                                  
·      GEOL 1345 Meteorology 3 credit hours.                                                                                                                   
·      GEOL 1347 Oceanography 3 credit hours.                                                                                                                   
·      MATH 2415 Calculus III  4 credit hours.                                                                                                                  
Credit cannot be received in both cross-listed courses.                                                                                                                  

Be careful to assure the appropriate number of labs are undertaken to meet transfer university requirements.
