EPCT 1392 - Special Topics in Water Quality and Wastewater Treatment Technology/Technician

Prerequisites: Admission into the program.
Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course was designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency.

Addition: A focused study of current or emerging topics in water quality and wastewater treatment. For this certificate, the topic centers on industrial water reclamation and reuse, emphasizing closed-loop process design, membrane treatment (UF/RO/IX), advanced monitoring/SCADA, and compliance with TCEQ permits and local industrial pretreatment limits. Colleges may define specific objectives and assessments for the selected topic under the statewide Special Topics rubric.

Measurable Learning Outcomes:
Learning outcomes/objectives are determined by local occupational need and business and industry trends. This course is designed to prepare the participant for wet lab processes and testing in specialized water reclamation systems, municipal, and industrial applications.
Design a conceptual closed-loop reclamation train (e.g., media → UF → RO/IX → polishing) to meet a given industrial water-quality specification and recovery target.
Implement a monitoring plan using online sensors (conductivity/TOC/silica) with QA/QC procedures, alarms, and data logging for process control and reporting.

Calculate flows, recoveries, and brine/concentrate mass balances; size chemical pretreatment and estimate O&M costs for reuse scenarios.
