President’s Honor List
A student must be taking at least nine (9) semester hours of work and must have a grade point average of at least 4.0. In addition, disciplinary or academic probation shall make a student ineligible.
Vice President’s Honor List
A student must be taking at least nine (9) semester hours of work and must have a grade point average of at least 3.5. In addition, disciplinary or academic probation shall make a student ineligible.
High Honor Graduates
Graduates receiving an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Applied Science with at least 30 hours at Temple College and with a grade point average of 4.0 on all hours which count toward graduation are considered high honor graduates.
Honor Graduates
Graduates receiving an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Applied Science with at least 30 hours at Temple College and with a grade point average of 3.5 on all hours which count toward graduation are considered honor graduates.
Academic Standards
Temple College is committed to supporting students in achieving academic success. To remain in good academic standing and to be eligible for graduation, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.
The College maintains a system of academic standings to monitor student progress and provide timely support and intervention when academic difficulty occurs. The College may limit enrollment, restrict course selection, and require participation in structured support activities to promote student success.
Good Standing
Students with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher are in Good Standing.
Academic Warning
The first time a student’s semester or cumulative GPA fall below 2.0, they will be placed on Academic Warning.
Intervention
- Student will receive notification they have been placed on Academic Warning.
Academic Probation
Students on Academic Warning who do not achieve a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher in the subsequent semester will be placed on Academic Probation.
Students will remain on Probation as long as they earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher but have not yet reached a cumulative GPA of 2.0.
If a student on Probation earns a semester GPA below 2.0 while their cumulative GPA remains below 2.0, the student will be placed on Academic Suspension.
Intervention
- A registration hold will be applied
- Required meeting with an Enrollment Advisor
- Development of an Academic Improvement Plan (AIP)
- Enrollment may be limited to a reduced course load
- Course selection will be restricted to classes that support improvement of the student’s GPA
- Students may be required to attend scheduled advising sessions
- Failure to comply with required advising or AIP expectations may result in administrative withdrawal from courses
Academic Suspension
Students on Academic Probation who are placed on Academic Suspension may not enroll for one long semester (fall or spring) and any intervening summer session.
Intervention and Conditions
- A registration hold will be applied
- Students must meet with an Enrollment Advisor for an Academic Standards of Progress Review
- Students may request consideration for conditional enrollment during the suspension period based on extenuating life circumstances that impacted their academic performance, with acceptable documentation
- Approval is granted by the Enrollment Advisor
If approved for conditional enrollment:
- Enrollment will be limited to a reduced course load
- Course selection will be restricted to those that support GPA improvement
- Students must follow a structured Academic Improvement Plan (AIP)
- Failure to meet AIP expectations may result in removal from courses
Conditional Reinstatement
After the suspension period, students who return to Temple College will be placed on Academic Probation.
Students must:
- Earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher to continue enrollment
- Continue working toward a cumulative GPA of 2.0
Failure to meet semester GPA requirements will result in an additional suspension.
Intervention
- Registration hold applied
- Required meeting with Enrollment Advisor
- Continued Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) participation
- Enrollment limited to a reduced course load
- Course selection restricted to courses that support GPA improvement
Return to Good Standing
Students will return to Good Standing at any time both their semester and cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher.
Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) Requirements
- Obtaining required textbooks and course materials before classes begin
- Demonstrating access to college systems (email, D2L, etc.)
- Prioritizing course selection that supports GPA improvement
- Courses that will raise GPA
- English and math courses (if applicable to the student’s program)
- Courses within the student’s field of study
- Limiting enrollment to 12 credit hours in a long semester or 6 credit hours in a summer term
- Utilizing academic support services within the first month of classes
- Providing documentation of support usage to their Enrollment Advisor
Transfer Students
Transfer students who are not in good academic standing at their last attended institution will be admitted on Academic Warning. All students, first term, returning to Temple College, or transferring in from another college are required to meet with their Enrollment Advisor prior to registration.
Financial Aid Note
Students receiving financial aid must also comply with the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy for financial aid eligibility.
