CDEC 1356 - Emergent Literacy for Early Childhood 3 credit hours. 2 lecture hours. 2 lab hours. An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching language and literacy through a play-based integrated curriculum to children from birth through age eight. This course requires students to participate in 16 hours of relevant field experience. Additional Fees: Lab fee $24 Measurable Learning Outcomes: Define literacy and emergent literacy. Analyze various theories of language development. Describe the teacher’s role in promoting emergent literacy. Create literacy environments and experiences for children.
