BITC 1411 - Introduction to Biotechnology4 credit hours. 3 lecture hours. 3 lab hours. Prerequisites: College biology course or Advanced Placement biology; BIOL 1406 recommended. R W M
An introduction to biotechnology, including career exploration, history and applications of DNA/RNA technology, molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, bioethics, laboratory operations and safe practices. The course is supplemented with laboratory exercises, and demonstrations that emphasize biotechnology applications in a variety of settings.

Measurable Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate basic laboratory skills such as pipetting, measuring and calibrating techniques, preparing solutions, and analyzing biomolecules; describe various applications and issues of biotechnology; identify various biotechnology career opportunities; and demonstrate appropriate laboratory safety.
