Mathematics Education, AAT

An AAT Mathematics degree leads to a variety of opportunities in teaching and education support services. Individuals in mathematics education often receive additional stipends for their skills and are highly sought after. This degree will provide a springboard for students to improve their skills demanded by continued engagement in mathematics education at higher academic levels.

First Year Fall


Meet with your academic advisor or department chair to obtain a copy of your desired transfer university degree plan and to determine the GPA and other items needed to transfer to your desired university.

Start applying for admission to transfer university and send first official transcript to transfer university.

     FY Courses will be offered on a continuous basis so that the student can complete them in any spring or fall semester. 

  1. More qualified students should consider starting their mathematics sequence with MATH 2412 Pre-Calculus Mathematics or MATH 2413 Calculus I and attempt to take MATH 2415 Calculus III before transferring.
  2. MATH 1314 College algebra and MATH 2412 Pre-Calculus Mathematics may be taken as 8-week courses. 
  3. You may also take these during a fall or spring semester if you desire.
  4. Choose a Science Core Elective from one  of the following.  Be sure to verify with your transfer university which of these will satisfy your university degree requirement. 
  • CHEM 1411 General Chemistry I (4 hours)
  • CHEM 1412 General Chemistry II (4 hours)
  • PHYS 1401 College Physics I (4 hours) (may not satisfy some university programs)
  • PHYS 1402 College Physics II (4 hours) (may not satisfy some university programs)
  • PHYS 2425 University Physics I (recommended) (4 hours)
  • PHYS 2526 University Physics II (recommended) (4 hours)

    5.  The following are suggested.  You may select one or take an additional elective during the Second Summer Semester. 

  • PHYS 2389 STEM Education Practicum (needed for graduation with honors*) ( 3 hours)
  • COSC 1436 Programming Fundamentals I (highly suggested) (4 hours)

*NOTE:  To be considered for graduation with honors, the student must complete PHYS 2389 and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

Transfer Outlook

AA Teaching (TEACH) 7-12 grades can lead to university transfer for Bachelor of Science in Biology with Teaching Certification. AAT TEACH 7-12 students interested in this bachelor’s degree must work with an academic advisor or department chair to determine transferrable course work.

Middle School Mathematics Teacher - $52,426* w/Bachelor’s Degree + Teaching Certification

High School Mathematics Teacher - $50,932* w/Bachelor’s Degree + Teaching Certification

Middle/High School Principal - $68,755* w/Master’s Degree + Principal Certification
