Analysis of the visual and aural aspects of selected motion pictures. Important classic films will be viewed to illustrate the historical growth and sociological impact of film as an art.
Measurable Learning Outcomes:
- Trace the historical development of American films from 1890 to the present.
- Understand the reasons for the rise and decline of the Hollywood system.
- Compare the European films to American films.
- Relate innovative techniques discovered in early decades to current practices.
- Analyze the sociological impact that movies have on our culture.
- Name major directors and their contributions to the art of film.
