BITC 2411 - Biotechnology Laboratory Instrumentation

4 credit hours. 3 lecture hours. 3 lab hours.
Prerequisites: BITC 1411 /BIOL 1414

Presentation of the theory, applications, and operation of various analytical instruments used in research and biotechnology laboratories. Students will practice separation and identification techniques, including electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, and chromatography. Laboratories will focus on qualitative and quantitative analyses.

Demonstrate handling of laboratory chemicals; demonstrate sampling and storage of biological materials; demonstrate operation and calibration of common analytical instruments; describe the theory and applications of various analytical instruments including types of electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, and chromatography; and demonstrate laboratory safety and management.
